FT. WORTH WEEKLY
W H A T P E O P L E A R E S A Y I N G . . .
"I wouldn't have expected the most exciting set of the night to
come from a bunch of teenagers, but Plano pop-punk group Minority surpassed my
expectations at Liquid Lounge. Lead singer Joel Russell, 14, stopped his
infectious jumping and posturing only once to get what he called a "sippy-poo of
water." Watching the packed house get into the set made it clear that the
"baby band" label no longer applies to these kids."
(in reference to Minority's performance at Dallas Music Festival '05)
- Hunter Hauk, Pop Life editor, QUICK (a publication of the Dallas Morning News)
"No one in Minority is old enough to drink, let alone vote, let alone smoke, let alone drive! But donít let their baby faces, Hulen Mall-bought punk looks, and very recent birth years fool you. Beneath the Hot Topic t-shirts lie four semi-prodigies who, rather than play their ages, play their (really high) maturity levels. OK, most of the songs are about girls, girls, and girls, but still -- bright guitars, smart and inventive beats, and creative song structures indicate a band thatís wise beyond its years.
- Anthony Mariani, Associate editor, Fort Worth Weekly
"I LOVE Minority! They can rock a million kids AND a cardboard Steve Martin! Minority isn't just a band, they are a rock 'n roll rocket headed for the stars. They shine, shine, shine."
- Jessie Jessup, DJ/Air Personality, KDGE-FM (102.1 The Edge) - Dallas/Ft. Worth
"Let's go ahead and get the age thing out of the way ... yes, they're 13-15 years old. That said, and aside, this band is a REAL punk band. They are legit musicians, with genuine playing experience, and a front man with NATURAL presence and spark. Forget that they're kids and treat them more like midgets that have been playing for a decade. This is a REAL punk band, bottom line."
- Ayo, Assistant Program Director, KDGE-FM (102.1 The Edge) - Dallas/Ft. Worth
"These guys have more energy on stage than two-thirds of the national acts out there. They completely stole the show at Edgefest 13."
- Travis Hill, Promotions Director, KDGE-FM (102.1 The Edge) - Dallas/Ft. Worth
"What could possibly make a middle aged guy buy a drum set?? Watching a young musical prodigy like Alec -- that's what! You watch him and you still can't believe him. In fact all the members of Minority are an inspiration. I'll be in line buying their first CD."
- Mike Castellucci, The Why Guy, WFAA Channel 8 - Dallas/Ft. Worth
"For a band that is so young, they have all the spirit and energy of a band with many years of experience."
- Kevin Lyman, Tour Founder, Vans Warped Tour
"The level of professionalism and musical ability that Minority possesses at this age is incredible. Their high-energy, vivacious stage presence and catchy hooks really captured the audience, created one of the best performances of SuperBash and established the group as one of the crowd favorites."
- Gina Rotolo, Publicist, SuperBash 2004, Super Bowl XXXVIII
"Fast paced and upbeat song with a leading ska-influenced bass line that's among the best. Keep your eyes peeled for this up-and-coming band."
(in reference to Minority's song, Stereotypo)
- Broadjam Staff Reviewer, Broadjam Inc.
"The thing that pushes Minority over the edge is they were fabulous entertainers. They had a lot of energy and made us smile."
(in reference to winning the Texas 10 Under 20 Young Talent Contest)
- Bruce Orr, Co-founder and President, Texas Music Project
"Joel Russell, lead vocals, really knows how to put on a show. He plays with the audience and his stage presence is that of an old pro (even though he's only 14). The thing that really stood out to TexasGigs was the musicianship. These are some truly fine musicians, working their craft in an amazing way. Kenny Midgley on guitar, outstanding. Kyle Midgley on bass, outstanding. Alec Lancaster on drums ... freakin' awesome.
- Cindy Chaffin, TexasGigs.com
"Hands down, these guys really "rocked" the Northgate Music Festival in College Station. They're young, talented, and energized! They should be on everybody's Must See list. ROCK ON MY YOUNG BROTHERS!"
- Annie Smith, Promotions Director, KVJM-FM (V103.1) - Bryan, Texas
"These kids rocked the house. I have rarely seen a band be able to motivate the College Station crowd like Minority. Keep your eye on these guys."
- Heather Prestridge, Event Coordinator, Northgate Music Festival 2004
"These kid rockers from Plano aren't much older than the Northgate Music Festival itself. Ranging from 12 to 15, Minority won't have to worry about getting kicked out of Northgate clubs; they are playing outside on the Promenade. But don't let their minor status fool you. This youthful four-piece can rock."
- SPOTLIGHT (The Eagle) Entertainment Guide - College Station, Texas
"Minority was easily one of the best bands in the festival."
- Dan Bliss, Coordinator, Dallas Music Festival 2003
"You guys ROCKED the Galaxy during the Dallas Music Festival. MINORITY is destined for stardom. The band blew me away with their amazing talent. Your talent surpasses your chronological years. Joel, you sure know how to take control of the audience. I loved the stage dive!! Your stage presence is unbelievable. I can't wait for a CD and to see your upcoming shows. MINORITY rocks!!"
- Amy Smith, Artist Management, Omni Entertainment/Caprice Records
"Minority -- now they were really something! These kids from Plano were still in their pre-teens and they were rocking out like crazy ... the front man had charisma and energy, and the guitarist had skill."
- Grady Smith, Editor, Ftworthmusic.com
